Members of Parliament Anthony Akol, representing Kilak North constituency, and Francis Zaake of Mityana Municipality were involved in a fistfight during a plenary sitting this morning.

In a video, Zaake is seen trying to push Akol from his seat before Akol retaliates with punches.

Other MPs quickly intervened, pushing Akol out, and a health officer was called to attend to Zaake.

The incident caused chaos in the House, and the sitting was suspended for 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, at the top of the agenda for today’s plenary sitting is the consideration of the National Coffee Amendment Bill, 2024, in which MPs will decide whether the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) should be abolished.

MPs are also expected to consider the government’s proposal to abolish the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) and the Uganda Road Fund, with their functions being taken over by the Ministry of Works and Transport.
