The United Bank for Africa (UBA) Uganda has launched a nationwide blood donation campaign at its Head Office in Kampala, marking a significant step in addressing Uganda’s persistent blood shortages.

The initiative, part of UBA’s corporate social responsibility (CSR), aims to boost blood reserves ahead of the festive season, a period when accidents and emergencies are most prevalent.

The event, which took place on Monday, saw a strong turnout from UBA staff, customers, and members of the public, all eager to support the life-saving cause.

“Blood saves lives, and as a responsible corporate citizen, UBA stands with healthcare institutions, especially during this time of increased need. This campaign is one way we’re giving back and showing solidarity with the communities we serve,” he said.

Hoziana Niyonsaba Ssemanda, UBA’s Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, encouraged attendees to donate. “Just one pint of blood can save up to three lives. This is a small sacrifice that creates a big impact, and we’re proud to see such strong participation today,” she stated.

The campaign, organized in partnership with Uganda Blood Transfusion Services (UBTS), will continue throughout December, expanding to other regions to ensure nationwide participation. UBA aims to collect significant blood donations, targeting around 200 donors daily, making this season a time of giving and hope for those in need.

This initiative is part of UBA Uganda’s broader CSR efforts, which focus on education, environmental conservation, and governance. These activities demonstrate the bank’s commitment to improving the well-being of the communities it serves, going beyond financial services to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
