The Uganda Police Force has intensified efforts to locate one of their own, Police Constable Charles Bahati, who is on the run after allegedly shooting and killing a truck driver, Julius Ssemwaka, during a heated altercation in Kampala.

The incident occurred on December 23 near the intersection of Kampala Club and Sheraton Hotel, close to State Lodge Nakasero. Reports indicate that the tragic confrontation unfolded when Bahati, traveling in a police patrol vehicle alongside other officers, instructed Ssemwaka to reverse his truck to allow the patrol vehicle to pass. Ssemwaka reportedly struggled to comply due to heavy traffic, leading to the fatal shooting.

In an update to the public, Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke confirmed that efforts to apprehend the fugitive officer are ongoing. To aid the search, police have released photos of Bahati, appealing to the public for assistance in locating him.

“The hunt is still on, but today we are sharing his photos to facilitate his identification. We believe he is hiding within communities, and we urge the public to assist us in bringing him to justice,” Rusoke stated.
