In the lead-up to the highly anticipated Ikon Awards 2025, renowned Hollywood actor, screenwriter, and producer Morocco Omari conducted an acting masterclass at UCC House, Bugolobi, attended by over 200 participants. The session was part of the Ikonversations series, a flagship initiative of the Ikon Awards designed to empower and inspire Uganda’s film community.

Ikonversations offers a platform for globally acclaimed filmmakers to share their expertise, experiences, and practical insights, helping emerging filmmakers, actors, and creatives elevate their craft and thrive in the competitive industry.

Omari, celebrated for his roles in Empire, Chicago Fire, Homeland, and other acclaimed productions, led the interactive training by pairing filmmakers for practical exercises. Participants were assigned character roles ranging from soldiers to politicians and tasked with improvising scenes.

Impressed by their performances, Omari offered valuable advice on mastering the art of acting. “You cannot lie to the camera,” he emphasized. “Confidence is key—it allows you to fully embody any character you portray.”

On advancing Uganda’s film industry, Omari highlighted the importance of producing high-quality content to attract international recognition. “Striving for excellence in storytelling and production is essential,” he said.

One of the participants, actress Malaika, praised the experience: “I’ve learned a lot, especially about the importance of staying professional.” Malaika, known for her debut in Nisha Kalema’s 2018 drama Veronica’s Wish and her leading role in The Honourables (2019), expressed gratitude to the Ikon Awards for providing this unique learning opportunity.

The Ikonversations series underscores the Ikon Awards’ dedication to fostering quality film production through mentorship, capacity-building, and inspiration. As the countdown to the awards gala continues, Omari’s masterclass is just one of several events bringing together local and international film industry professionals.

Now in its third edition, the prestigious Ikon Awards ceremony will take place on March 29, 2025, at Serena Hotel Kampala. The awards celebrate creativity, excellence, and innovation in Uganda’s film and creative sectors, recognizing exceptional talent and contributions that elevate the industry both locally and globally.
