Police in Jinja are holding Michael Acidri, a boda boda rider, at Kakira Central Police Station following allegations of raping a 25-year-old female passenger.

The victim, whose identity remains confidential, reported hiring Acidri to transport her from Magamaga Town Council to Bugembe in Jinja City for a fare of Shs 3,000.

Upon reaching Kakira Roundabout, Acidri allegedly diverted his motorcycle into a drainage channel and repeatedly assaulted her.

Following the attack, Acidri is accused of beating the victim and attempting to strangle her with his shirt. Security personnel from the integrated highway patrol intervened, shining lights into the area and forcing Acidri to abandon the assault and flee. Police officers managed to apprehend him as he attempted to escape.

Kiira Regional Police spokesperson James Mubi confirmed the arrest and stated that Acidri faces charges of rape while the victim is receiving medical treatment.

Police have impounded Acidri’s motorcycle, registration number UFC 998E, and collected forensic evidence to aid the investigation.
