The Electoral Commission has announced that the by-election for the Kawempe North Constituency, following the passing of Muhammad Ssegirinya, will take place on March 13, 2025. This announcement was made during a meeting with stakeholders, including local leaders, political representatives, religious leaders, police, and media, at Tick Hotel in Kawempe Division North.

The by-election process will follow a detailed schedule, beginning with the cut-off date for voter registration and transfer of voting locations, set for January 31, 2025, in Kawempe Division North. This marks the deadline for eligible voters to ensure their registration is updated.

From January 31 to February 1, the recruitment of officials to oversee the Display of the Voters’ Register will take place. These officials will be responsible for the display of voter information, with the lists of recruited officials to be posted at both the Office of the Returning Officer in Kampala and the Electoral Commission Offices in Kawempe Division between February 3 and 10.

Training for the Display Officers, Voter Location Supervisors (VLS) Officials, and Supervisors will occur on February 8, followed by the issuance of appointment letters. The Voters’ Register will then be displayed at polling stations in Kawempe North from February 10 to 19.

From February 19 to 24, Parish Tribunal Recommendations for deletions or additions to the Voters’ Register will be displayed at the Ward headquarters, allowing for public scrutiny and feedback.

Candidate nominations will take place at the Office of the Returning Officer on February 26 and 27, followed by a period from February 27 to March 5 for inspection of nomination papers and the lodging of complaints.

On February 28, the Returning Officer will meet with candidates to harmonize their campaign schedules and form Liaison Committees. The official campaign period will run from February 28 to March 11, with the final day for voting, March 13, 2025, marking the Polling Day for the Kawempe North Member of Parliament.
