The second edition of Equity Bank’s Abakyala Ku Ntiiko initiative in Masaka was a success, with an engaging panel discussion that brought together women from various sectors, including business and formal employment. The event focused on sharing insights into balancing work, personal life, and financial success.

During the discussion, participants voiced concerns about the challenges of managing careers, businesses, and family responsibilities. In response, the panelists shared practical advice on self-care, home management, and financial discipline. They explained the importance of conducting thorough background checks before hiring employees—both in business and at home—to ensure trust and efficiency.

Women were also encouraged to maintain proper financial records, embrace accountability, and develop a strong saving culture as pillars for sustainable business growth.

“You need to know the people you hire because they can either build or break your business. Create a professional yet supportive relationship with your staff—understand their challenges and aspirations—this will help you achieve your business goals,” advised Dr. Olive Nabirye, a businesswoman and employee of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation in Masaka.

Another panelist, Kellen Nampurira, CEO of Zebra Hotel, shared her inspiring journey from working in a bakery to owning one of Masaka’s top hotels. She urged women to embrace patience and consistency in business.

DPC Kimanya Kabonera, Jessica Naawe, reinforced the importance of financial independence. “Join savings groups, invest wisely, and avoid relying on handouts. I manage my family, run a livestock business, and serve in government as a police officer—but I make sure to set boundaries and prioritize rest,” she said.

The discussion struck a chord with many attendees, reinforcing the initiative’s mission to equip women with practical knowledge and tools for personal and professional success.

Following a successful launch in Kampala on March 13, Equity Bank expanded Abakyala Ku Ntiiko to Masaka, attracting hundreds of women engaged in small-scale and micro businesses.

Speaking at the event, Masaka Branch Manager Darius Tumwesigire reaffirmed Equity Bank’s dedication to supporting women in business. “We are here to serve women and provide the financial tools they need to grow their businesses,” he stated.

During the event, the bank introduced financing opportunities tailored for women and youth in the micro-business sector. The EquiMama product, which includes health insurance, was highlighted as a key offering. “With EquiMama, women receive both financial support and health coverage, ensuring they remain strong and focused on their businesses,” explained Florence Bukko Nakku, Equity Bank’s Micro Banking Officer.

The Abakyala Ku Ntiiko initiative continues to empower women by enhancing financial literacy, providing access to capital, and fostering networking opportunities—helping them thrive in business and beyond.
