Singer Ali Bukenya, alias Nubian Li, has officially declared his intention to run for Mayor of Nakawa in the upcoming 2026 general election.

Speaking at a burial over the weekend, the soft-spoken singer said he is ready and willing to offer himself for leadership.

“Just like our President (National Unity Platform (NUP) Leader Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine) said, if we have the qualifications and ability, we should stand for elective positions. I am going to contest for the mayoral position in Nakawa,” Nubian Li said.

Nubian Li further stated that he has been inspired by Bobi Wine to run for office, just as Bobi Wine once revealed that Nubian Li’s positivity enabled him to join active politics.

Speaking at Nubian Li’s wedding in 2021, Bobi Wine narrated that if it were not for Nubian Li’s encouragement, he would not have contested in the 2017 Kyadondo East MP by-election, which he won with a landslide victory.

He further stated that it was Nubian Li who encouraged him to take the bold step of contesting for the presidency in 2021.

Nubian Li has been a close friend of Bobi Wine for several years, experiencing both the benefits and challenges of being the opposition leader’s right-hand man. He was remanded for almost a year after being arrested during the 2021 presidential campaigns.

While he was in prison, his wife, Mutoni Gloria, won the Kyanja Parish LC3 seat and was later appointed Deputy Mayor of Nakawa Division.
