Police in Mukono have arrested one Abdu Muyagu for killing his ex-girlfriend, Jackline Nyawedde. The 25-year-old had been missing since April 27.
Detectives tracked Nyawedde’s last mobile phone activity, which revealed communication with Muyagu shortly before the phone was turned off. Acting on this lead, police apprehended Muyagu, along with a traditional healer, James Bakabulindi, and an accomplice, Mubarak Kizito.
According to police, Muyagu lured Nyawedde under the guise of reconciliation but had secretly plotted to kill her—allegedly driven by jealousy and a desire for revenge after she ended their relationship and began dating one of his friends.
During interrogation, Muyagu reportedly confessed to the killing. Subsequent searches led investigators to his home, where they recovered Nyawedde’s phone and a human head wrapped in cloth. Guided by the suspects, officers later discovered her headless torso buried in a nearby garden in Namawojjolo East, Mukono District.
The remains were transported to Mulago Hospital for a postmortem examination. Preliminary results suggest that the murder was ritualistic in nature, with jealousy and emotional betrayal believed to be the underlying motives.
The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
