The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has officially unveiled the new Uganda Premier League trophy, a gleaming silver piece named Margherita, in honour of Uganda’s highest point—Margherita Peak on the Rwenzori Mountains.

The trophy will be presented for the first time to the 2024/25 league champions, Vipers SC, during the official coronation this Saturday at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

According to FUFA, the design of the Margherita trophy is more than an aesthetic triumph—it is a story forged in silver. Named after the 5,109-metre Margherita Peak, the trophy embodies the pinnacle of football achievement in Uganda, symbolising the long and arduous climb to the top of the nation’s football hierarchy.

The trophy’s shape is a reimagined football—its spherical form stretched vertically to echo the towering majesty of the Rwenzori range. The elongated shape conveys the relentless ambition of clubs vying to rise above the rest, to reach the “peak” of Ugandan football.

Its horizontal spread curves gracefully to form a crescent, evoking a young moon. FUFA says this detail represents new beginnings and the evolving nature of competition in the beautiful game.

The outer body retains a nod to traditional football design, featuring hexagonal and half-pentagonal panels. These familiar forms are blended with modern artistry, resulting in a sleek, futuristic silhouette.

Mounted atop a semi-spherical base textured with classic dimpled ball patterns, the trophy stands tall on two sculpted tiers. The upper tier is engraved with ‘FUFA’ and ‘Uganda Premier League’, asserting its official stature. Below, a glossy black base provides grounding—both visually and structurally.

The trunk of the trophy features a smooth metallic surface, marked by subtle vertical lines. These lines mimic the tension of a stretched football, connecting the top and bottom seamlessly and symbolising continuity, unity, and aspiration.

Crafted from fine silver, the Margherita trophy stands exactly 511 millimetres tall—a deliberate homage to Margherita Peak’s 5.11-kilometre elevation. Every millimetre of height reflects a metaphorical metre of effort, sacrifice, and triumph that champions endure to reach the summit of the league.

The Margherita trophy is not merely a piece of silverware. It is a profound symbol of national pride, competition, and the boundless ambition that defines Ugandan football. It tells a story—of mountains climbed, challenges overcome, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

As the Uganda Premier League evolves, the Margherita trophy stands as a timeless reminder of what it means to be the best in the land: to rise, strive, and ultimately, to conquer.
