Rwashamaire Town in Ntungamo District is set to come alive this Saturday as Ugandan athletics legends Dorcus Inzikuru and Stephen Kiprotich headline the inaugural Coffee Marathon, organized by Inspire Africa Group.
Inzikuru, the 2005 world steeplechase champion, will lead the women’s pack, while Olympic marathon gold medalist Kiprotich is expected to draw major attention in the men’s race.
A total prize pool of $30,000 (about Shs 109 million) will be distributed among the top 10 finishers across four race categories: 5 km, 10 km, 21 km, and 42 km.
Each category will award cash prizes to the top ten runners, ensuring that 40 participants walk away with winnings.
According to Inspire Africa’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Duncan Abigaba, the event aims to celebrate Uganda’s coffee industry through the unifying power of sport, while also leveraging the star power of its elite athletes to promote Uganda’s coffee on the global stage.
The marathon is part of a broader campaign to support the Africa Coffee Industrial Hub, which will utilize cutting-edge freeze-dry technology to produce premium instant coffee, energy drinks, and cosmetics.
Meanwhile, entertainment will be headlined by Ugandan singer Bebe Cool and Tanzanian star Diamond Platnumz.
