United Bank for Africa (UBA) Uganda has celebrated Africa Day in vibrant fashion, with staff donning colorful African attire to showcase the continent’s rich cultural diversity.
The event took place at the bank’s head office in Kampala, where employees were treated to a variety of African foods and drinks under the theme: “Africa by Africans: Partnering for Progress.”
Speaking at the event, UBA Uganda’s Managing Director, Kenneth Kisambira, explained that the bank’s identity as Africa’s global bank. He stated that Africa Day serves as a reminder that the continent has everything it needs—fashion, talent, and creativity—to shape its own destiny.
“Africans must be proud of our heritage and should showcase it to the rest of the world,” Kisambira said. “As an African bank, Africa Day is a moment to proudly celebrate our identity and the continent that shapes who we are.”

Hoziana Niyonsaba, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at UBA Uganda, noted that although Africa Day is officially observed on May 25, the bank decided to celebrate early by giving their staff a special cultural experience.
Explaining the importance of the day, Niyonsaba said: “For us at UBA, Africa Day reflects our identity—it embodies who we are as a bank rooted in the African spirit. It’s a moment to reaffirm our commitment to the continent and to remind ourselves and the world that we have a shared responsibility to build the Africa we aspire to.”
UBA celebrates Africa Day annually, and this year’s celebration is held in partnership with AfriCash. Through this initiative, UBA supports secure money transfers across the continent, strengthening financial connectivity within Africa.
Africa Day commemorates the founding of the African Union on May 25, 1963. It is dedicated to celebrating the continent’s diversity while highlighting its vast cultural and economic potential.
