The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has spoken about the bomb explosion that went off near the Munyonyo Martyrs’ Shrine this morning, saying the UPDF counter-terrorism unit pursued and neutralised the two armed terrorists.
According to Chris Magezi, the acting UPDF spokesperson, the operation was intelligence-led.
The two people said to have been carrying the bomb died at the scene of the blast—one male who was riding the motorcycle, and the other a female who is said to have been carrying the bomb.
He said the security services are on heightened alert to ensure the Martyrs Day celebrations proceed without disruption.
Magezi further urged the public to remain calm but vigilant, and to report any suspicious individuals, objects, or activities to the security services for immediate attention.
