A 35-year-old moneylender, Hamida Mutesi Nalule, has been stabbed to death by a man reportedly indebted to her. The incident occurred in Seeta Bajjo, Mukono Municipality.

The suspect, 26-year-old Elvis Katabaazi, is accused of murdering Nalule after failing to repay a loan of Shs 18 million, which she had lent him in 2023.

According to Racheal Namwanje, a close friend of the deceased, Katabaazi had consistently avoided repayment, prompting Nalule to consider involving law enforcement. Seeking to resolve the matter, Katabaazi allegedly proposed a meeting last Wednesday in Nabuti village, claiming he was willing to transfer ownership of his house in exchange for clearing the debt.

Nalule, driving her Toyota Fielder (registration number UBR 959B), took Katabaazi to the agreed location. Upon arrival, they learned that the local council chairperson—who was meant to witness the agreement—was not at home.

Katabaazi then convinced Nalule to wait and later suggested another location on Nyenje Road, where the official might be found.

A short distance from the main road, Katabaazi allegedly attacked Nalule, stabbing her multiple times in the neck and chest. Despite her injuries, she managed to stumble out of the vehicle, crying out for help, but collapsed approximately ten metres away and died at the scene.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed Katabaazi’s arrest. Eyewitness accounts have been recorded, and forensic investigations are ongoing.
