The National Unity Platform (NUP) has ushered in a new five-year term of leadership, with party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, and Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya re-elected unopposed. The announcement came during NUP’s delegates’ conference held at the party’s Leadership School in Kamwokya.

The event marked a significant moment for Uganda’s leading opposition party as it restructured its national executive committee and unveiled a new lineup of leaders tasked with steering the movement through the next election cycle.

During his swearing-in, Bobi Wine expressed gratitude to the delegates and supporters, acknowledging the challenges the party faces under a politically repressive environment.

“Until the last minute, we were uncertain whether this conference would take place due to the constant intimidation we operate under,” Kyagulanyi said. “Nonetheless, we have successfully concluded it, elected our leaders, and we are moving forward.”

He praised all participants—winners and contenders alike—for their commitment to the party’s democratic ideals.

“It was noble for some to step aside, but it was even more courageous for those who took up the challenge. In NUP, there are no losers—only patriots working for a better Uganda,” he emphasized.

Kyagulanyi called on the newly elected officials to use their positions to champion good governance, especially as the country heads into the next general elections.

While Kyagulanyi and Rubongoya secured their positions without contest, other key roles saw competitive races. Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi fended off a challenge from Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana to retain his position as party spokesperson.

The new executive committee reflects a blend of continuity and fresh energy.

All Deputy Presidents retained their positions: Nambeshe John Baptist (Eastern Region), Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru (Northern Region), Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi (Buganda Region), and Hon. Jolly Jacklyn Tukamushaba (Western Region).

Kassanda South MP Frank Kabuye takes over as Secretary for Youth, replacing Francis Zaake. Akiso Benjamin now heads the Institutions Department, succeeding David Musiri.

Additional appointments include:

Buwembo Habib as National Secretary for Mobilisation

Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu as Secretary for International Relations

Ageno Harriet from Dokolo District as Secretary for Policy

Apiyo Ramto Flavia from Omoro District as Deputy Secretary for Youth (Northern Region)

Akello Phanice Mary from Busia District as Deputy Secretary for Youth (Eastern Region)

Dr. Nalukwago Judith as Secretary for Professionals
