The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially announced June 26 and 27, 2025, as the nomination dates for candidates seeking to contest for positions on parish committees representing special interest groups. These include the youth, older persons, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Speaking on behalf of the Commission, EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi confirmed that nomination forms are now available at all sub-county, ward, and town council headquarters. He emphasized that only individuals who were successfully elected to village-level special interest group committees are eligible to contest at the parish level.
The EC further clarified that the electorate for the parish-level elections will consist exclusively of the respective village committee members. For example, only members of the youth committees at the village level will vote to elect the youth committee at the parish level.
The Commission is encouraging all eligible individuals to actively participate in the nomination process and to strictly adhere to the guidelines provided to ensure a smooth and transparent election.
These elections form a critical part of Uganda’s broader electoral roadmap leading up to the 2025–2026 General Elections, reinforcing the importance of inclusive representation at every level of governance.
