Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, the President of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has said that unlike in the 2021 presidential race—where he claims he won but was never declared—his camp is targeting victory once again in the 2026 elections, but this time ensuring he is officially declared the winner.
Speaking to journalists after being nominated to contest for the presidency of Uganda under the NUP ticket, Bobi Wine stated that he is confident he will end President Yoweri Museveni’s four-decade rule.
“I am very confident that, together with the people of Uganda, we shall deliver the desired victory in the elections,” Bobi Wine said.
He added, “In 2021, we won but we were not declared. So our mission in 2026 is to win and make sure we get declared.”
In 2021, the Electoral Commission declared Museveni the winner of the presidential election, having secured 5.85 million votes, while Bobi Wine came second with 3.48 million votes.
Bobi Wine believes his second attempt against Museveni will be formidable, as he is hopeful that the masses will vote in favor of change.
Meanwhile, President Museveni is expected to pick nomination forms this Saturday to run for president for a seventh term on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.
