Singer Ykee Benda real name Wycliff Tugume, has officially taken another major step towards marriage. The singer and his fiancée, Emily Nyawira, held a joyful Kukyala ceremony at Emily’s parents’ home.

Ykee Benda took to his social media and wrote, “I KEEP MY PROMISES 🤍 ESPECIALLY TO A KIND SOUL LIKE YOU.”

The message was accompanied by colourful photos of the couple at the event.

In Buganda culture, Kukyala is a pre-Kwanjula visit where the groom-to-be formally introduces himself to the bride’s family. It is a more intimate occasion compared to the larger Kwanjula ceremony. During Kukyala, the groom typically visits the bride’s home, often with a few friends but without his parents. The bride’s parents may also be present or represented by an elder. This visit serves as an informal introduction and allows the groom to formally request the bride’s hand in marriage.

The singer’s Kukyala comes just weeks after he went down on one knee at Divine Resort and proposed to Emily.

Reports indicate that preparations are already underway for a full Kwanjula ceremony, which is expected to take place in September 2025.
