Football fans in Uganda are set to enjoy some of the most affordable ticket prices for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), compared to neighbouring host countries.

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for CHAN 2024 in Uganda has officially unveiled the ticket pricing for the tournament, offering rates aimed at encouraging massive attendance. According to the LOC, ordinary tickets will go for just Shs3,800, VIP tickets at  Shs7,600, while VVIP access will cost Shs11,400.

In contrast, Kenya is expected to set slightly higher ticket prices, with ordinary tickets estimated at around Shs5,500, VIP tickets at shs13,000, and VVIP access costing approximately Shs27,700.

Dr Dennis Mugimba, Chairperson of the Uganda CHAN LOC, revealed that the ticket prices were set following guidance from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which advised all host nations to adopt a modest pricing model to ensure full stadiums and an inclusive tournament atmosphere.

“CAF recommended that ticket pricing be kept accessible to fans of all social classes,” Mugimba said. “We’ve based our pricing on the proposed model of $1, $2, and $3 for ordinary, VIP, and VVIP categories respectively, and adjusted these rates in line with Uganda’s local currency.”

Mugimba emphasised that the championship is not just a footballing event, but a national celebration.

“We want every Ugandan to feel a part of this moment. CHAN 2024 is more than just football — it’s an opportunity to showcase Uganda’s identity and hospitality to the continent.”

Uganda will host all its matches at the refurbished Mandela National Stadium in Namboole, and the national team has been placed in a challenging Group C alongside Algeria, Niger, Guinea, and South Africa.

In the broader East African setup, Kenya will host matches at Nyayo and Kasarani Stadiums, while Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar’s Amaan Stadium will also serve as key venues for the tournament, which runs from 2nd to 30th August 2024.
