Kampala Woman Member of Parliament (MP), Shamim Malende, is set to return to Uganda after undergoing specialised treatment at Nairobi Hospital in Kenya.
Speaking briefly to the media at the time of her departure—on the recommendation of Nsambya Hospital, where she had been hospitalised for a month—Malende revealed that she was experiencing severe abdominal pain and complications, a condition that had left her extremely weak and unable to walk unaided.
On Sunday evening, she announced her impending return in a social media post, stating, “Coming back home, Monday 21/7/2025. Thank you, my people.”
For nearly two years, Malende has been in and out of hospital and has undergone multiple emergency abdominal surgeries during that period.
Meanwhile, despite her absence, the MP—who is completing her first term in Parliament—was nominated in absentia to contest for the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket to defend her seat in the 2026 general elections.
