The 2025 Fort Portal City Marathon lived up to its billing on Saturday, 19th July, attracting thousands of runners and fitness enthusiasts alike who came to celebrate, wellness, culture, and the beauty of Fort Portal.
The event, which featured races in the 5 KM, 10 KM, 21 KM, and 42 KM categories, was not only a celebration of athleticism but also a colorful showcase of Fort Portal’s rich cultural heritage and scenic beauty. Participants embraced the challenge of running through some of Uganda’s most breathtaking landscapes, including crater lakes, tea plantations, and historic landmarks like the Karuzika Palace and Amabeere Ga Nyinamwiru caves.
His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, graced the occasion, adding royal elegance and further elevating the event’s stature. His presence was warmly received by participants and the community.

As part of the build-up to the 2025 Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon taking place in Kasese on August 23rd, the Tusker Lite team was at the Fort Portal City Marathon to engage with the running community and raise awareness about the upcoming event.
This activation aimed to encourage both elite and amateur runners, fitness enthusiasts, and the general public to register and participate in the Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon, that is the only World Athletics-certified race in the country.
Runners expressed excitement about the Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon. As they registered, many said the scenic landmarks on the course and the international appeal made it a race they want to take part in.
Tusker Lite’s involvement in the Fort Portal City Marathon shows its commitment to promoting an active and vibrant lifestyle through running, adventure, and community. Even though the brand has its own event, the Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon, being at Fort Portal was a way to connect with Uganda’s growing running community, encourage participation, and build excitement for the Kasese race.

Denise Paula Nazzinda, Brand Manager for Tusker Lite at Uganda Breweries Limited, says the energy in Fort Portal was incredible, but the real magic is coming to Kasese.
“We’re gearing up for an unforgettable experience; thousands of runners, breathtaking routes at the foothills of the Rwenzori, and the perfect blend of adventure, lifestyle, and celebration. This year’s edition is going to be the biggest and boldest yet,” she said.
The 2025 Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon, stands to be its most impressive edition yet: nearly 6,000 runners from up to 50 countries, heightened global and government engagement, eco-conscious operations, vibrant race events, and major impacts on local economic and tourism horizons.
