Police in Mukono have arrested three suspects involved in a violent overnight robbery spree that stretched across several villages in Goma Division, Mukono District, and parts of Wakiso.
According to a police statement, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning at around 3:00 am, when a group of criminals armed with pangas launched a series of attacks, targeting multiple communities and robbing residents of valuables.
The robbers first struck in Nabweru (Mukono District), then moved through Kyaliwajjala and Sonde in Wakiso, before reaching Seeta Town in Mukono. One of the suspects admitted to the route and sequence of the attacks during police questioning.
On their return journey towards Nabweru, the gang committed yet another robbery at Namanve Industrial Park, along the busy Kampala–Jinja highway.
Their luck ran out when a group of boda-boda riders who had picked up their trail alerted officers at the Namanve Coca-Cola police post, who immediately joined the pursuit.
The suspects were eventually tracked down and found parked behind KAWACOM Company within the industrial park.
During the confrontation, one of the suspects, Nsubuga, attempted to attack a police officer with a panga. He was shot and incapacitated, sustaining injuries to the waist and leg. He was later rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
Two other suspects were arrested at the scene: Asimwe Stephen, 26, and Musinga Musa, 22.
From Asimwe, police recovered three pangas and a motorcycle with registration number UGG 597Y.
Additionally, three smartphones suspected to have been stolen during the robberies were seized from the suspects.
Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest other members of the criminal gang.
“We commend the vigilance of the boda-boda riders and our officers for the swift response that led to the arrest of these suspects. We urge the public to remain alert and report suspicious individuals or activity,” the police statement concluded.
