Kenyan President William Ruto has made a bold promise to the Harambee Stars, pledging a hefty reward of Ksh600 million (approximately Shs16.6 billion) if they win the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Ruto made the announcement during a visit to the national team camp at the Pullman Hotel in Nairobi on Saturday.

To further motivate the squad, the President promised an additional Ksh1 million (Shs27 million) to each player for every victory, and Ksh500,000 (Shs14 million) per player for every draw throughout the tournament.

Reaching the later stages of the tournament will also come with significant bonuses. Ruto pledged Ksh60 million (Shs1.6 billion) if the team reaches the quarterfinals and Ksh70 million (Shs 1.9 billion) for making it to the semifinals.

This year’s CHAN is co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The opening match saw Tanzania secure a 2-0 win over Burkina Faso on Saturday.

Kenya is set to face the Democratic Republic of Congo this afternoon, while Uganda Cranes will begin their campaign against Algeria on Monday.
