An inmate at Masindi Government Prison, Moses Tuhame, has died following an incident of inmate-to-inmate violence. The incident happened on Saturday, August 3.
According to the Uganda Prisons Service, the clash involved Moses Tuhame (Prisoner No. MDI/829/2023), a convicted inmate serving time for aggravated defilement, and Anatoli Irumba (Prisoner No. R-534/25), a remand prisoner awaiting trial for the alleged murder of his mother.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:00 a.m. in the TB isolation ward, where both inmates were being held.
Following the attack, Tuhame was urgently transferred to Masindi Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
Prisons spokesperson Frank Baine confirmed the incident and expressed the Service’s sympathy:
“The Uganda Prisons Service extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. May the soul of Moses Tuhame rest in eternal peace.”
Police have since taken over the investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack. A postmortem examination is currently underway.
The deceased’s body will be released to his family after all necessary medical and legal procedures are completed.
