Uganda’s most iconic band is turning 50, and the celebrations promise to be nothing short of legendary. Afrigo Band, the cornerstone of Uganda’s music heritage, will mark its golden jubilee with a mega concert titled “Legends of Sound: Afrigo at 50” on August 16th at Lugogo Millennium grounds.

To kick off the festivities, the legendary group visited Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) in Port Bell, Luzira, home of Tusker Malt Lager, the official sponsor of the milestone event. During the visit, Afrigo Band presented the UBL executive team with special tickets to the event as part of the build-up to the much-anticipated celebration.

Speaking at the engagement, Catherine Ndungu, Marketing and Innovations Director at UBL, paid tribute to Afrigo’s enduring legacy.

Afrigo at 50 isn’t just a concert; it’s a moment in Ugandan music history, and Tusker Malt is here to honour that legacy and continue curating premium experiences for lovers of great beer, timeless music, and rich culture.”

Josephine Njoroge, UBL’s Finance and Strategy Director, who represented Managing Director Andrew Kilonzo, underscored the importance of preserving cultural legacies.

“Afrigo’s ability to remain relevant across generations is extraordinary. We are honoured to be part of this historic moment. Afrigo and Tusker Malt coming together is more than a partnership, it’s a cultural milestone.”

Ali Alibhai, CEO of Talent Africa, the production house behind the concert, also shared his excitement:

“Afrigo is not just a band, they are part of our national identity. This celebration is long overdue.”

Reflecting on their long-standing relationship with Uganda Breweries, Afrigo Band Executive Director James Wasula shared a heartfelt moment from the past.

Mr. James Wasula, the Executive Director of Afrigo Band (third left), addressing the press at the event.

“This feels like coming home. UBL was one of our very first sponsors, and together we brought music to life in unforgettable ways. We weren’t just performers, we were brand ambassadors who carried the energy, the vibe, the culture. Being back here, where it all started, is truly special.”

From nostalgic melodies to the unmistakable taste of Tusker Malt, Afrigo at 50 is shaping up to be more than just a concert; it’s a celebration of sound, legacy, and Ugandan excellence.

Fans are encouraged to come ready to sing, dance, toast, and honour five decades of Afrigo magic.
