Uganda’s security chiefs have promised a safe marathon weekend in Kasese as runners descend on the foothills of the Rwenzori for the fourth edition of the Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon, scheduled for Saturday, August 23, 2025.
In a message on X, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, assured the runners that, “all security agencies had been instructed to ensure participants’ safety.”
Organisers say security planning covers the course, start and finish areas, and post-race festivities, aimed at ensuring the safety of all active participants (runners), spectators, and support teams throughout the marathon weekend.
Dennise Paula Nazzinda, Brand Manager, Tusker Lite at Uganda Breweries Limited, remarked, “With support from the security agencies in Uganda, runners should expect to be safe as they run the Rwenzori hills and enjoy the Tusker Lite Neon Rave, later in the night.”
Amos Wekesa, the Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon team lead, framed the event as a showcase for sports tourism. Concerning security, he said, “rest assured that the security will be as tight as necessary,” so runners can enjoy the “breathtaking beauty of Kasese.”
The marathon features 42km, 21km, 10km, and 5km running distances, opening the field to elite athletes, budding amateurs, running enthusiasts, and families alike. Race kits are Shs60,000.
Post-race, organisers promise a celebratory Neon Rave headlined by Eddy Kenzo, alongside Kasese talent and other Ugandan hit-makers.
