A sauna has exploded at Buziga Country Resort in Makindye Division, leaving several people nursing serious burns and injuries.
The blast occurred at around 10:00 pm on August 24, 2025. Video footage circulating online captured the chaos, with rescuers frantically helping victims, including a woman who was severely burnt and rushed to the nearby Kiruddu Hospital. Property within the resort was also damaged in the incident.

Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the explosion, saying rescue teams had been dispatched immediately, though a full report would only be released today.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that at least eight people were injured.
This is not the first time Kampala has witnessed such a disaster. In September 2019, a similar explosion at Marco Gym and Spa in Kyaliwajjala left five people injured.
Investigations at the time pointed to overheating of the steam bath boiler and a suspected faulty valve, which caused gas to escape from a sealed container, triggering a violent mechanical blast that damaged nearby homes.
The latest incident has reignited concerns over safety standards in leisure facilities, particularly those operating steam baths and saunas in Kampala’s ever-growing hospitality sector.
