The Electoral Commission (EC) has issued a stern directive to nominated candidates for various local council positions, prohibiting them from campaigning before 10 November 2025, the officially designated start date for campaign activities.
This announcement is part of the EC’s efforts to uphold a structured and fair electoral process in line with its general elections roadmap.
On 3 September 2025, the EC commenced the nomination process for candidates vying for positions such as district/city chairpersons, mayors, and councillors across different regions.
The exercise begins at 9 a.m. daily at Electoral Commission regional offices across the country.
According to EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi, the process is going on smoothly in most areas, although a few experienced minor machine glitches. The exercise will run until 24 September.
