Last night at Mezo Noir was that one night you wished you hadn’t missed. And yes, I’m talking about the Don Julio Mezo Noir Takeover that lit up the luxurious Kolo hangout.

Now I know some of you will say, “I didn’t score an invite.” I get it, it was strictly invite-only. So please, allow me the honour of painting the picture for you.

Mezo Noir was transformed into a Don Julio heaven. As your self-appointed storyteller, forgive me when I say, it was lights everywhere. The flamboyance, the luxury, the premium atmosphere… exactly what you’d expect when Don Julio 1942, the pinnacle of tequila luxury, takes centre stage.

At the entrance? A flute glass with a shot of Don Julio 1942 to set the tone. Everyone got a taste of the icon. Step further inside, and you were greeted by a full cocktail bar ready to serve up whatever your palate fancied, be it a Margarita, an Old Fashion or a Paloma, paired with delicious food bites to keep the night flowing.

In the main area, I lost count of how many times “Ameno / Dorime” dropped. And every single time, it meant one thing: bottles of Don Julio 1942 were being ushered in. The energy? On fire. The party? Levels.

The DJs kept the place buzzing. DJ Spinny did his thing, DJ Dash left no crumbs on the floor, but the main act? South African producer and DJ Jazzworx, my oh my. He took us straight to amapiano heaven.

He kicked off with “Tholukuthi”, the global sensation, and from that moment, guests were on their feet. Then came a string of the biggest amapiano hits, climaxing with “Vuka”, which had the whole crowd singing along. His stage presence? A hundred and ten per cent. I swear I felt like I had been transported from Mexico to South Africa in one night. He closed with his banger “Isaka” with Ciza, and at that point, I knew this was a night to remember.

And did I mention? Every baller, every big spender in Kampala was in attendance. The Mezo Noir Takeover was the place to be.

Speaking about the event, Judie Nandekya, Senior Brand Manager Tequila & Rum, East Africa, made it clear this was only the beginning:

“The Don Julio Mezo Noir Takeover is a true expression of Don Julio’s craftsmanship. No one does it bigger or better than the Don. We don’t just bring luxury and sophistication; we deliver unforgettable experiences to every celebration. And from what you’ve witnessed tonight, it’s clear there’s no celebration like a Don Julio celebration.”

“Tonight, we wanted guests to taste Don Julio 1942, experience its excellence, and leave with a memory that felt distinctly Don Julio. And believe me, this is just the beginning,” she added.

And just when you thought it was over, the newly unveiled Don Julio Brand Ambassador, Sheila Gashumba, stepped up to the decks. The Lil Stunner herself closed the night with amapiano and up-tempo beats that turned the whole thing into a movie.
So, if you ask me, never miss a Don Julio soirée. If it’s invite-only, find a way to score that invite. Because the things that happen at a Don Julio Takeover? They’re the kind you have to experience for yourself.
