Kiira Motors Corporation (KMC), Uganda’s automotive manufacturer, has revealed the first glimpse of its long-anticipated concept SUV.

The company released a single teaser image of the vehicle and called on Ugandans to help choose a model name — a move aimed at building national pride and a sense of ownership around the brand.

The concept SUV carries a bold, modern identity. Its front is defined by a towering upright grille with vertical slats, capped by a sleek horizontal LED light bar that stretches across the fascia.

This futuristic lighting signature, paired with a prominent KMC emblem, projects a commanding road presence.

From the side, the SUV’s boxy stance and angular profile exude strength and durability, hallmarks of full-size utility vehicles. A two-tone finish — with rugged black cladding on the lower body and sharper, cleaner lines above — strikes a balance between toughness and refined elegance.

The window design softens the rugged edges, lending the vehicle a premium, contemporary flair.

Design cues evoke comparisons with American heavyweights like the Cadillac Escalade and GMC Yukon, but Kiira’s concept maintains a uniquely African vision, fusing luxury-inspired minimalism with utilitarian practicality.

The SUV forms part of KMC’s broader production roadmap, first laid out in 2019. The plan prioritised commercial vehicles, beginning with buses in 2021, then trucks and pickups in 2022, before culminating in SUVs by 2025. True to that vision, the concept marks a significant milestone in the company’s growth trajectory.

As Africa’s 14th vehicle manufacturer, Kiira has already delivered three concept vehicles, including the Kiira EV and the solar-powered Kayoola Bus. The new SUV hints at the company’s ambition to not only serve Uganda’s transport needs but also position itself on the continental and global automotive stage.
