National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, has urged party members and supporters who fear imprisonment to abandon the struggle, warning that with the election period drawing closer, more opposition figures are likely to face arrest.
Addressing NUP members at the party headquarters in Makerere-Kavule, Bobi Wine said he had received information indicating that the regime is planning a crackdown on NUP members and supporters.
“If you fear prison, please leave the struggle. I have information that they’re planning to arrest everyone around me,” Bobi Wine said.
He also revealed that he will be nominated on the same day as President Yoweri Museveni, September 23.
“Since he has an after-nomination rally at Kololo, we shall also hold ours in Katwe. Those who are scared should not come. We are in a real struggle and there’s no room for fear,” he added.
Bobi Wine further noted that this will mark the beginning of a protest vote against the regime.
