All is set for an action-packed matchday as the Chaapa League, powered by Guinness, climaxes with a grand finale this Saturday, September 20, at Mbarara High School.
After kicking off in February, the Chaapa League, now in its 10th season, will bring together former students of Mbarara High School for a memorable celebration of sportsmanship, brotherhood and nostalgia at the very place where the whole story began.
Fuelled by the spirit of #RoadToTheKraal, the journey to the finale has stirred excitement across the board, with old boys reliving memories, relishing the rivalries, and counting down to what promises to be an unforgettable climax to the season.
This will be the first time the grand finale is played in a knockout phase format, with previous editions having followed a round-robin structure.
With everything on the line, the grand finale promises high-stakes drama and unpredictable outcomes, as underdogs look to upset the favorites and write their own piece of Chaapa League history.
CHOGM (2003) will face Msamatu (2001). Dingiswayo shall tussle against CF Burdizo, as See Far (2002) will square up against Sikukulu (2008). The other quarter-final contest has Yobo Yobo (2006) against Bull Old Timers.
Holistics, an alumni ladies’ team from Maryhill High School that has been part of the league for four seasons, will grace the Chaapa League season finale and play a match against the current students of their school.
Speaking ahead of the much-anticipated finale, Kenedy Gumisiriza, the chairperson of the Chaapa League, expressed confidence in the preparations and excitement around the event.
“We are good to go. Everything is in place and we are looking forward to an electric atmosphere. This season has been special, and we want to close it with a bang,” he said.
Individual and team awards will be given out to celebrate great performances and teamwork during the day.
In the spirit of giving back, a blood donation drive will be held alongside the festivities. Participants and supporters are encouraged to take part and help save lives. It is one of the ways the Chaapa League continues to positively impact the community beyond the football pitch.
Adding more energy to the day, local music sensation T Paul will perform live at the event. His presence is expected to light up the celebrations.
Mercy Atwongyeire, the Project Manager Premium Beer at Uganda Breweries Limited, said that Guinness is proud to be part of such a meaningful and exciting initiative.
“Guinness celebrates boldness and character, values that are clearly seen in the Chaapa League. This partnership is about more than just football. It is about bringing people together, creating lasting memories and celebrating excellence,” she said.
The Chaapa League will return early next year for Season 11.
