The IUEA Sports Ground in Kansanga, Kampala, came alive on Sunday, October 12, as the SMACK League, powered by Guinness, returned for matchday two.

With teams eager to make amends or continue strong starts, the day offered plenty of goals, drama, and passion from the first whistle to the last.

The action kicked off with the Bushmen edging Window 1-0, courtesy of an early strike from Allan Kalule that proved to be the winner.

Knights and Lycans treated fans to one of the day’s most entertaining games, which ended 2-2. The Knights went ahead early through Jonathan Kibedi and doubled their advantage when Lycans defender Emanzi deflected the ball into his own net. Lycans regrouped after halftime, with Brian Okwera pulling one back before Edwin Mpoza completed the comeback with a well-taken header to secure a point.

Elite showed class and composure to defeat Blockowners 4-1, with a Maxwell Batte goal sealing the result after a Blockowners own goal had already widened the gap.

Pirates continued their solid form with a 2-1 win over Vulcanz, fighting back from a goal down before LB grabbed a late winner.

Defending champions Alks finally found their rhythm, edging Cyclones 1-0 through a neat finish from Aaron Kamwada.

Mama Teo Legends also turned on their experience, beating Mighty Zimbaz 2-1 after coming from behind. Rogers Ssekulima gave Zimbaz the early lead, but John Mark leveled from the penalty spot and Francis Gonzaga scored a dramatic late winner.

As the afternoon wore on, rain began to fall, adding intensity to the closing fixtures.

Mafiaz and Vikings shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw after an own goal put Vikings ahead before Lucas Mwadha equalized.

Vendorz claimed a 2-1 win over Zuluz with goals from Josh and Samuel Sentumbwe after Steven Yiga’s temporary equalizer.

Gladiators saw off Spartans 3-2 in a lively contest. Spartans went ahead through Ramandah Ndolerire’s penalty, but Ivan’s quick brace and Nyambeya’s goal gave Gladiators control before Timothy Otiting pulled one back.

Away from the pitch, the entertainment lived up to the theme “Old Skool Meets New Skool.” DJs LB, Rota, and Tungi kept the energy alive with back-to-back mixes.

Beyond the football, Guinness played its part in elevating the experience. Fans hoisted their iconic black pints as they cheered on their teams.

Mercy Atwongyeire, Project Manager for Premium Beer at Uganda Breweries Limited, shared Guinness’s excitement about being at the heart of the SMACK League experience.

“Matchday two of the SMACK League was really great. The energy, the passion, the connection between fans and teams truly stood out. We are proud to be elevating the matchday experience, creating a space where people come together to enjoy football, music, and the bold character of Guinness,” she said.

The SMACK League returns on October 26 for matchday three, with more action, excitement, and entertainment expected as the regular season continues.
