Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Clive Nsiima has been remanded to Luzira Prison on charges of assault and malicious damage to property after a CCTV video showed him slapping a female shop attendant at a petrol station in Kyanja, a suburb of Kampala.
The incident, which occurred on October 7, went viral on social media last week, sparking public outrage and prompting police to take swift disciplinary and criminal action against the officer.
In the footage, Nsiima is seen entering the station shop with a female companion, picking several items, and later attacking the attendant after she insisted that he pay before leaving.
Following his arrest, Nsiima spent four days in police custody before appearing on Monday, October 13, before Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Nicholas Aisu at City Hall Court. The magistrate ordered that he be remanded until October 16, when the court will rule on his bail application.
Meanwhile, Nsiima’s lawyer informed the court that both parties had since reached a reconciliation agreement, though prosecution maintained that the matter remains criminal and subject to judicial determination.
