Kampala is gearing up for a vibrant cultural treat, as the grand Diwali Food & Music Festival returns for the 2025 edition, at Speke Resort Munyonyo on Sunday, October 19.

The festival, organised by the Indian Association Uganda (IAU), in partnership with the High Commission of India, will bring together communities for a day of food, music, and cultural celebration, at the resort’s scenic lakeside.

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, symbolises the victory of light over darkness, and good over evil. This year’s theme- “Unity in Diversity,” will showcase the rich traditions of Uganda’s Indian communities, while inviting locals to join in the cultural exchange.

Festival activities begin at 12pm, with registered groups receiving tents, tables, and chairs, to prepare and serve 2–3 authentic dishes from their heritage.

Visitors can expect a mouth-watering spread of Indian delicacies—spiced curries, fragrant rice dishes, and sweet favourites such as jalebi and gulab jamun.

To ensure variety, no two groups will serve the same dishes. Cooking will be done on-site using gas stoves, while beverages like water and soft drinks will be managed centrally.

Beyond the food, the festival will feature an exciting entertainment program, including- a children’s play area with games, cultural performances, live performers, fireworks display at dusk, as well as traditional decorations and attire to brighten up the stalls

Stalls will display dish names and prices for clear view, and organisers have put hygiene measures in place, including waste bins and food safety standards, to keep the environment clean and safe.
Communities interested in participating must register by September 30th. Registration requires a simple form listing the dishes, community contacts, and coordinators.

For more details, one can scan the QR code on the festival posters, or contact the IAU President- Devanand Nainani on +256 771 1000 / WhatsApp +256 703 4087, or via email at indianassociationuganda@gmail.com

Last year’s edition drew large crowds, and organisers expect an even bigger turnout this for this year’s edition. With Uganda’s Indian diaspora now estimated at over 30,000 people, the festival continues to strengthen cultural ties, promote tourism, and highlight Uganda as a hub for multicultural celebration.
Set against the breathtaking shores of Lake Victoria, the event promises not only delicious food and entertainment but also a sense of togetherness.

As the organisers put it: “Let’s make the Diwali Food & Music Festival 2025 a beautiful showcase of India in Uganda—celebrated in harmony.”
