A growing number of Ugandans have rallied behind a petition calling for popular TikToker Muzungu Boda — a New Zealander known for his humorous and heartfelt portrayal of Ugandan life — to be granted Ugandan citizenship.
The online petition, titled “Grant Muzungu Boda Ugandan Citizenship,” was launched on Change.org and has already attracted over 400 verified signatures. Supporters say it’s a way of recognising his deep appreciation for Ugandan culture and his efforts to promote the country in a positive light.
Muzungu Boda, whose name combines “Muzungu” (a Swahili term for a white foreigner) and “Boda” (derived from Uganda’s famous motorcycle taxis), has become a social media sensation for his fun and creative videos that celebrate everyday Ugandan life.

His TikTok content often features him riding boda bodas, enjoying local food, joining in cultural festivals, and sharing light-hearted moments with ordinary Ugandans. His down-to-earth personality and genuine love for the country have earned him a loyal following across East Africa.
Many fans say his content not only entertains but also helps bridge cultural divides between Uganda and New Zealand. They view the call for citizenship as a way to honour his unique contribution to Uganda’s digital and cultural space.
As the petition continues to gain momentum, it reflects a growing sense of admiration for a foreign creator who has gone beyond content creation — choosing instead to embrace Uganda as home.
