President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Lino Anguzu as the new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), pending vetting and approval by Parliament.

Anguzu will succeed Justice Jane Frances Abodo, who recently became Principal Judge following a reshuffle of top judicial officers. Abodo’s five-year tenure as DPP was marked by institutional reforms and a stronger focus on accountability within the criminal justice system.

Faruk Kirunda, the Deputy Press Secretary to the President, confirmed the appointment and said Anguzu’s name has already been forwarded to Parliament for consideration.

Who Is Lino Anguzu?

Anguzu currently serves as Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (ADPP) and heads the International Crimes Department (ICD) at the Office of the DPP.

A seasoned prosecutor, Anguzu has handled cases involving war crimes, human trafficking, terrorism, and transnational organised crime, playing a key role in landmark prosecutions under the ICD docket.

Beyond the courtroom, he has represented Uganda in various regional and international legal cooperation forums, strengthening cross-border justice and coordination on complex crimes.

His appointment is widely seen as a move that blends experience, institutional memory, and reform potential, signalling continuity in the Directorate’s mission to deliver effective and independent prosecutions.

If approved, Anguzu will become the chief prosecutor, overseeing criminal prosecutions nationwide.
