After nearly two decades on air, respected media personality Faridah Nakazibwe made the unexpected decision to leave NTV Uganda in October 2023.
For many viewers, her exit marked the end of an era, but Nakazibwe says the choice was deeply personal — and long overdue.
In a recent interview, she explained that the emotional intensity of her show “Mwasuze Mutya” had taken a toll on her wellbeing. The popular morning programme, known for its intimate and often heartbreaking human-interest stories, became increasingly difficult for her to handle emotionally.
“For the last two years, I felt drained. The stories I used to air on Mwasuze Mutya really affected me. It was extremely exhausting, and many left me vulnerable,” Nakazibwe revealed.
According to her, listening to painful personal experiences every day left her feeling emotionally spent and mentally fatigued. Over time, she realised she needed to step back and prioritise her mental health.
Beyond the emotional strain, Nakazibwe also wanted to reclaim her privacy and spend more time with her family.
“I wanted to live a private life away from employment and dedicate time to my kids,” she added.
After a 17-year run at NTV, Nakazibwe decided to close that chapter and focus on new personal goals — including entrepreneurship and motherhood. In early 2024, she welcomed her baby boy, Marktoum, and has since embraced a quieter, more private life away from the spotlight.
Her decision highlights an often-overlooked side of media work: the emotional weight journalists carry when telling other people’s stories. For Nakazibwe, stepping away wasn’t about walking out on her career — it was about choosing peace, family, and emotional balance.
