President Yoweri Museveni set social media ablaze recently after making a bold—and slightly eyebrow-raising—claim about the Indian Ocean. Speaking at a security forum in Kampala on 9 November 2025, while discussing East African Community (EAC) integration and regional defense, Museveni declared:
“That ocean belongs to me; it is my ocean. I am entitled to it. In the future, we may have wars.”
The statement, meant as a serious geopolitical warning, quickly turned into a goldmine for Ugandan humorists online. Social media, especially X (formerly Twitter), erupted with memes imagining Ugandans staking flags on the ocean, building seaside resorts in their minds, and even issuing “ocean passports.”
What started as a stern discussion about regional access and security has now become a meme-fueled spectacle, proving that in Uganda, even potential wars can inspire a few laughs.
