The Guinness Matchday truck rolled into Kansanga in Kampala for SMACK League matchday five, held on Sunday, November 23, at the IUEA Sports Ground.
It was the first time the truck rolled into the venue, giving Premier League fans the ultimate Guinness Matchday on Tour experience.
Matchday 12 of the Premier League was highly anticipated, and with Liverpool and Manchester City having dropped points on Saturday, the Super Sunday clash between Arsenal and Tottenham was crucial, with the Gunners seeking to steer clear at the top.
The Gunners dominated from start to finish, with Eberechi Eze stealing the headlines after scoring a hat trick, the first in a north London derby since 1978. Leandro Trossard opened the scoring for Arsenal, while Richarlison netted a brilliant consolation for Spurs, but the victory was largely overshadowed by Eze’s sensational performance.
Before the London derby, fans enjoyed the Leeds vs Aston Villa match on the giant Guinness Matchday truck screen, which the latter won 2-1.
With a cocktail of Premier League action, local league matches, and entertainment, matchday five ensured that all fans stayed at the same venue throughout the day with no need to go anywhere for extra entertainment.
“The Guinness Matchday on Tour added an extra layer of excitement to the SMACK League, and as a brand, we are committed to elevating fan experiences wherever we go. This is what the Guinness on Tour is all about. It is about bringing the Premier League action to wherever the football fans are,” Denise Nazzinda, the Guinness Brand Manager said.
On the pitch, local action ensured fans had plenty to enjoy. Phantomz beat Lycans 3 to 0, Vulcans beat Vikings 2 to 1, Outkasts held Zuluz to a 1 all draw, while on form Elite inflicted a 5 to 2 defeat on Devils, among other exciting results.
The day’s entertainment featured songstress Ava Peace who performed most of the fans’ favourites from her catalogue.
Kezerod and the band also serenaded revellers, with various DJs ensuring an elevated atmosphere throughout the event.
David Kawooya, the SMACK League Chief Marketing Officer, said matchday five set a new standard for the competition.
“Every matchday we also seek to do something new and this weekend was really exciting. See you in the next matchday,” he said.
The SMACK League returns on December 7 for matchday six.
