United Bank for Africa (UBA) Uganda, in partnership with the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service (UBTS), has carried out its annual blood donation drive across all regions where the bank operates, including Kampala, Mukono, Mbale, Mbarara, Jinja, Gulu and Fort Portal.
The initiative, which UBA carries out every year, comes at a crucial time when the demand for blood typically rises due to increased road accidents during the festive season, maternal health emergencies and other conditions such as sickle cell disease and malaria.
Esther Awor, Blood Donor Recruiter at UBTS, emphasized the importance of this partnership. “We are collecting blood for people involved in road accidents during the festive season, mothers who are expecting, and people with illnesses that at one time require blood. This drive, powered by United Bank for Africa, always draws big numbers at such a time. We appreciate UBA for their annual commitment to such an initiative that ensures blood is available for those who need it in a season like this.”

UBA’s Head of Marketing, Mrs Hoziana Niyonsaba Ssemanda, expressed gratitude to all Ugandans who participated and highlighted the bank’s commitment to scaling the impact each year.
“This is a tradition we uphold annually as one of the many ways we give back to communities across the country. We expect to collect much more than we did last year because the turn-ups at all locations have been so good,” she noted.

Hoziana appreciated all donors, with a special mention of the people of Mukono, where the 2025 drive began. Donors arrived early and in large numbers. The same effort has since been seen at the different locations across the country.
She encouraged all eligible donors to join this noble cause wherever they hear a call to support. “We urge all people who are able to donate to do so. Your donation can save someone in our hospitals, and every life deserves a chance to live longer.”
