Police in Njeru Municipality, Buikwe District, have launched a search for a masked gunman who kidnapped a six-year-old girl and robbed her family of Shs1.65 million during a late-night home invasion.
The attack happened at around 11:30 pm on Thursday at the home of Dr Ndiwalana Mbuga Moses, 37, in Naminya Cell, shortly after he returned from work.
According to Sezibwa Region Police spokesperson Hellen Butoto, the gunman ambushed the family as the doctor parked his vehicle.
The assailant, armed and wearing a mask, reportedly held Dr Ndiwalana, his watchman Byaruhanga Michael, his wife and their maid at gunpoint before ordering them to lie down. He then forced them inside the house, where he allegedly stole Shs1,650,000 in cash.
The attacker went on to seize the couple’s six-year-old daughter, Nankya Kaira Mbuga, and disappeared into the darkness.
Police say the motive behind the kidnapping remains unknown, and no ransom has been demanded. A team of detectives, canine units and local security personnel has been deployed to track down the suspect and rescue the child.
“The search is ongoing to recover the victim and apprehend the assailant,” Butoto said, urging residents to stay alert and report any suspicious individuals or activities.
