Two Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) soldiers assigned to the security detail of the Minister of State for Defence and Veterans Affairs, Hon. Huda Olero, died on Tuesday evening after their escort vehicle crashed head-on with a lorry in Kalule, Bombo, Luwero District.
The accident happened at around 7:00 pm. One soldier died on the spot, while the second passed away shortly after reaching Bombo Military Hospital.

The incident was confirmed by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao, who was travelling nearby and witnessed the crash. He clarified that none of his convoy vehicles were involved, countering earlier false claims circulating on social media.
“None of my vehicles was involved, but we witnessed the accident and stopped to help the victims,” Mao said in a statement.
He added that he, along with other motorists and residents, assisted in the rescue efforts by helping to transport the injured soldiers to the hospital.
The lorry involved in the collision, registration number UAN 394 Z, was reportedly carrying cattle at the time. Authorities are continuing investigations into the cause of the accident.
