Bakiga Nation has announced the return of its popular cultural festival, Rukundo Egumeho – Nohiri Yeitu, set for Sunday, 14 December. This year’s edition promises a full Christmas experience inspired by the traditional Kigezi festive season, right in the heart of Kampala.
The festival aims to recreate the warm, nostalgic Christmas many grew up with in Kigezi—complete with community gatherings, hearty food, music, storytelling, and shared joy.
“This is the Christmas of our childhood—the drums, the carols, the stories, the community. We’re bringing it home to Kampala. This is Nohiri Yeitu… our Christmas, celebrated our way,” the BakigaNation team said.
A major highlight will be the BakigaNation Mass Choir, performing Christmas carols in the Kikiga style—an experience expected to be among the festival’s most moving moments.

The stage will also feature performances from both cultural and contemporary artists, including Florence Musimenta, Lillian Nabaasa, Norman Shaaka, Lady Sarah, TPaul and the BakigaNation Cultural Troupe. In a special highlight, Sheebah Karungi will join the celebrations as the festival’s guest artist, delivering a unique cultural-meets-mainstream performance.
Attendees can look forward to a cultural village experience, traditional storytelling, Father Christmas appearances, special Christmas giveaways, art, craft and food exhibitions, as well as family-friendly entertainment and activities for children.
This year’s edition is designed as more than just an event—it’s a homecoming. A moment for families, friends and communities to reconnect, celebrate identity and honour Kigezi heritage.
The festival is supported by Pilsner Lager, Roke Telkom, Tents 4 U, Pacific Events, Sanyuka TV, AfroMobile, Next Music, Capital Radio and Black. Their partnership strengthens BakigaNation’s mission to preserve culture and celebrate community.
