MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) East Africa has opened applications for its 2026 intake, inviting aspiring Ugandan filmmakers to apply before the February 27 deadline.
MTF is a fully structured, year-long training programme in film and television aimed at equipping young creatives with practical skills and industry experience. The initiative was created to address the shortage of skilled professionals in Africa’s fast-growing creative sector.
The programme combines classroom instruction with hands-on production, mentorship and direct exposure to industry professionals. Participants receive training in key areas including storytelling, directing, cinematography, scriptwriting, editing, audio production, producing and production management. By the end of the course, graduates leave with professional credits, industry connections and practical experience.
Rinaldi Jamugisa, PR and Communications Manager at MultiChoice Uganda, said the demand for local content on platforms such as DStv and GOtv continues to rise, but the industry still needs more highly trained talent.
“Africa’s film and television industry is expanding rapidly. MultiChoice Talent Factory was established to equip young creatives with world-class skills and prepare them to compete at a global level,” Jamugisa said.
He added that the programme targets disciplined and ambitious young creatives who are ready to sharpen their craft and build sustainable careers.
Since its launch in East Africa, MTF has trained dozens of filmmakers from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. Many alumni have gone on to work on major productions across the continent, earning awards, securing commissions and building strong professional networks.
MTF graduates have collectively produced more than 40 films, reaching over 12 million viewers. Their work has aired on platforms including Showmax, Maisha Magic and Africa Magic, while also creating employment opportunities across the creative value chain.
Currently, four Ugandan filmmakers — Giovanni Yona Namulya, Asiimire Owobushoborozi, Fredrik Mayiga and Denzel Everd Maniple — are part of the ongoing cohort in Nairobi, where they are undergoing intensive training and collaborating with peers from across the region.
Ugandan filmmakers, producers, writers and other creatives with a passion for storytelling are encouraged to apply before the February 27 deadline and take advantage of the opportunity to advance their careers in film and television.
