Musician Mikie Wine has addressed long-running rumours that he plans to follow his elder brother Bobi Wine into elective politics, saying he does not feel called to that path—at least not yet.
Appearing on Deep Talk, the singer, whose real name is Michael Mukwaya, said politics is a calling that must come naturally, not something to be forced by public expectation.
The speculation dates back several years when Mikie Wine shared a photo of himself wearing a suit and the red People Power beret. He accompanied it with a reflective post about leadership in his family and his ability to serve if the opportunity ever arose. The post quickly fuelled talk on social media that he was positioning himself to contest for the Kyadondo East parliamentary seat.
Mikie Wine, however, dismissed the claims, saying his message was misunderstood and exaggerated by people who wanted him to replace Bobi Wine in politics.
He explained that simply posting a photo while dressed formally and wearing party colours was enough for rumours to spiral. According to him, some observers assumed he had political ambitions because he was often seen around his brother’s political activities.
“When people asked me about it, I told them I would cross that bridge when I got there,” he said. “Politics is a calling. I want whatever I do to be a calling because, without that, you cannot make the right decisions at the right time.”
For now, Mikie Wine insists his focus remains on his music career, leaving the door to politics open—but only if and when the calling comes.
