Police identify mobile money spot where allegedly ‘paid Makerere rioters’ withdraw money from

A few hours after Minister of Education and Sports who also doubles as the First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni released a statement in which she said that most of those involved in the ongoing Makerere University students’ strike are paid by members of the opposition to riot.

The latest development is that Police has now identified one of the mobile money points where the alleged paid rioters withdraw money from to fund their activities.

According to Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, the payments are some of the clues under investigations to fully understand what is truly fuelling the strike that has gone into the second week, and has escalated to violent clashes between Police, its sister security agencies, and the students.

“Already we have managed to get one of the Mobile Money points in Wandegeya where they draw money for their protests,” Enanga said.

It should be noted that the strike broke out after a section of students at Ivory Tower felt that the 15% cumulative increment in tuition fees is unfair, and that a public institution that Makerere is, shouldn’t charge students that highly.
