Drama is continuing to unfold at Uganda’s highest court which is the Supreme Court. Justice Esther Kisakye has been blocked from accessing the court room where she was supposed to delivery her ruling on lawyer Male Mabirizi’s petition where he’s seeking to stop the delivery of detailed rulings arising from the presidential election petitions filed by the former presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.

Kisakye says that her together with Mabirizi and journalists have been denied access to the court room on official working hours.

“It’s a sad day for our country that the unconstitutional events that started unfolding yesterday in the premises of the Supreme Court are continuing today,” Kisakye says.

While delivering a detailed ruling about Kyagulanyi’s withdrawal of election petition challenging President Museveni’s 2021 win, eight of the nine judges including the Chief Justice Owiny Dollo walked away from court while Kisakye was starting to deliver her ruling.

Kisakye accused the Chief Justice Owiny Dollo of confiscating her file containing her minority ruling on the petition withdrawal. She stated that she felt it was her constitutional duty to disobey the unlawful orders of the Chief Justice and to fulfil her duties as a member of this quorum.

While addressing journalists today outside the Supreme Court premises, she says that she has not yet got her confiscated file despite reaching out to the office of the registrar of the judiciary.
