Tensions continue to escalate ahead of the Kayunga by-election as security deployment heightens at National Unity Platform (NUP) president, Bobi Wine’s residence.
The by-election is being held after the Kayunga LCV seat became vacant following the death of Muhammad Ffeffeka Sserubogo who died a month after occupying the office.
In a tweet, Bobi Wine has reported increased security deployment at his residence, a move, targeted at deterring the leader from proceeding to Kayunga, where he is supposed to campaign for NUP candidate, Harriet Nakiwedde.
In the tweet, Bobi Wine notes that his movement has been hindered as no one is allowed to get in or out which points towards a possibility of him not being present in Kayunga today.
Bobi Wine further reports that his security guard and gardener were violently arrested before being whisked off.
“The military has increased deployment around my home. No one is allowed to leave or enter. Our security guard and gardener have been violently arrested, beaten, and bundled into ‘drones’ outside our gate. Their phones confiscated,” he tweeted.
His tweet was followed up by the hashtag, “we are removing a dictator”.
The security deployment has gradually tightened as Bobi Wine made an earlier tweet stating how security had deployed around his area code.
“This morning, ahead of my planned visit to Kayunga District to campaign for our flag bearer, the police and military deployed overnight around my home in an apparent attempt to block me from leaving. The cowardly regime is on its way out. A matter of time,” he tweeted.
President Museveni is expected to be in Kayunga throwing his weight behind NRM candidate, Andrew Muwonge.
