Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested 29 supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) following a disturbance along the Mityana highway on Monday morning.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, the incident took place at Bujjuko Trading Centre, where a group of NUP supporters allegedly blocked the road, disrupted traffic, and caused commotion while waiting for their party president and presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine.

“On October 6, 2025, presidential candidate Kyagulanyi Robert was scheduled to travel to Mityana District for a campaign rally. Although he was initially expected to use the Mityana Highway, he later opted to travel via Hoima Road,” Onyango said in a statement.

He explained that joint security teams had been deployed to manage traffic and maintain order along all designated routes. However, the situation reportedly got out of hand when some supporters began drumming, blowing whistles, and blocking traffic, despite several warnings from the police.

“The group ignored repeated instructions from our officers. Consequently, 29 suspects were arrested and are currently detained at Wakiso Police Division pending investigations,” Onyango added.

Police have since cautioned all presidential candidates and their supporters to respect approved campaign routes and traffic guidelines to ensure safety and order during the campaign season.

“We appeal to all candidates to comply with traffic regulations, follow approved movement plans, and respect the rights of other road users,” Onyango said.
